Traackr recently released its State of Influence Beauty H1 2023 report, which looks at the top beauty brands, platforms and trends popular among influencers from the first half of the year.
Influencers are always on the lookout for the next big beauty trend, and the first half of 2023 has been no exception. Here are eight trends that are gaining traction among beauty influencers, according to the report from Traackr:
Overall, mentions of body sprays and mists are up 35%, with even bigger increases in engagements (221%) and video views (240%).
In the first half of 2023, mentions of hair perfumes were up 8%, with much larger increases in engagements (48%) and video views (190%). Some of the frequently mentioned brands in top performing content include Gisou, Byredo, and Moroccan Oil.
The data supports our observation with mentions up 8%, engagements up 61%, and video views up 39%. Some of the most popular choices amongst beauty influencers include sunscreens from Supergoop’, Kosas, La Roche-Posay, and CeraVe.
In the first half of 2023, mentions of bold lipstick were up 70%, engagements up 624%, and video views up 2,317%. Some of the most mentioned products were from Fenty, YSL, and Maybelline.
GURWM videos have been trending over the first half of 2023 with mentions up 293%, engagements up 276%, and video views up 409%.
Across the first half of the year, mentions are up 13%, engagements up 116%, and video views up 109%. Brands that showed up in multiple top posts were Amika, Living Proof, and Fekkai.
Underpainting mentions are up 994% with video views up by a massive 3,143% so far this year.

Driven by the excitement of the highly anticipated Barbie film, barbie-themed content from beauty influencers saw a 56% increase in mentions, 128% increase in engagements, and 172% increase in video views. Many brands released limited collections, with the collections from NYX, Glow Recipe, and OPI receiving the most mentions across social.2. Body Sprays
Makeup and fashion aren’t the only categories where Y2K trends seem to be making a comeback. Within the fragrance sector, body sprays and mists are making a comeback. But, the products popping up across social media aren’t the AXE and Old Spice products that might have first popped into your mind. Rather, it’s flowery and summery scents from brands like Sol De Janeiro, Bath & Body Works, and Victoria’s Secret that are being mentioned most by beauty influencers.Overall, mentions of body sprays and mists are up 35%, with even bigger increases in engagements (221%) and video views (240%).
3. Hair Perfume
Hair perfumes are surging in popularity this year. Likely reasons are that they tend to be more affordable than EDP and EDT perfumes and many are formulated to add moisture and shine to hair while adding in a subtle scent.In the first half of 2023, mentions of hair perfumes were up 8%, with much larger increases in engagements (48%) and video views (190%). Some of the frequently mentioned brands in top performing content include Gisou, Byredo, and Moroccan Oil.
4. Tinted Sunscreen
Tapping into the rise of “minimalist” makeup looks we’ve seen over the past couple years, we’re seeing beauty influencers across social media opting for tinted sunscreens this summer.The data supports our observation with mentions up 8%, engagements up 61%, and video views up 39%. Some of the most popular choices amongst beauty influencers include sunscreens from Supergoop’, Kosas, La Roche-Posay, and CeraVe.
5. Bold Lips
Bold lips are trending this summer with intense coral and orange-based red tones being chosen over the more subtle peachy pink tones that we saw last year.In the first half of 2023, mentions of bold lipstick were up 70%, engagements up 624%, and video views up 2,317%. Some of the most mentioned products were from Fenty, YSL, and Maybelline.
6. Get Unready With Me
The counterpart to the popular GRWM trend, “Get Unready With Me” videos are all about saying goodbye to the day and preparing for a refreshing night of sleep. For some beauty creators this is as simple as removing their makeup and washing their face while others have an entire routine of serums, creams, and face masks. The popular storytelling trend that exploded in popularity within GRWM videos is present in GURWM videos as well.GURWM videos have been trending over the first half of 2023 with mentions up 293%, engagements up 276%, and video views up 409%.
7. Dry Shampoo
Already a staple in the hair care routines of many, mentions of dry shampoo are up as more turn to products that can quickly refresh and nourish hair in between washing sessions.Across the first half of the year, mentions are up 13%, engagements up 116%, and video views up 109%. Brands that showed up in multiple top posts were Amika, Living Proof, and Fekkai.
8. Underpainting
Underpainting is a technique where contour is applied first, then concealer, followed by foundation. This old-school makeup trick makes for a sculpted yet natural look. This trend was originally made famous by beauty icon Kevyn Aucoin, and was recently brought back to life thanks to makeup artist Mary Phillips revealing she uses the technique on Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber.Underpainting mentions are up 994% with video views up by a massive 3,143% so far this year.
