Beauty Packaging recently asked PerfectFlow’s CEO Larry Levenstein, about the company’s innovative refill system for fragrance and personal care products.
BP: Describe how PerfectFlow might be of particular value to those in the fragrance/personal care/beauty segment?
LL: In the beauty arena, product purity is a must. Since PerfectFlow is completely sealed, product integrity is assured. When today’s consumers are asking for preservative-free products, a sealed bottle maintains product integrity. The PerfectFlow Refill Station also offers consumers the opportunity to customize their favorite product with their favorite scent or special combination of hydration and treatment.
The value proposition is strong with a very high ROI because the costs are reduced across the board—from packaging, transportation, and handling to inventory costs. The PerfectFlow system is completely customizable for your specific product and market, whether it’s moisturizing lotion, hand soap, or laundry detergent.
BP: How would beauty/fragrance/personal care brands make use of this technology, or is it something best suited for use by filling/packaging providers?
LL: I think brands would be best served working in partnership with packaging providers. For example, say I’m the top body lotion manufacturer and I wanted to roll out PerfectFlow Refill Marketing. I’d decide everything from the bottles’ design to how much they hold. I’d determine what customizations I’d like the customer to be able to do – from scents to thickness to even ingredients, like hypoallergenic or vegan. I’d work with a kiosk designer to determine how I’d want our Refill Station to look for my brand. I’d get to decide on the UX of the touch-screen interface and control all my refill stations’ touch-screens remotely so my marketing department can roll out coupons or rewards programs across the board. The sky’s the limit here with how PerfectFlow technology could enhance the brand experience.
BP: Could you also offer a comment or two on the environmentally friendly aspects of this technology?
LL: Consumer eyes are opening to the perils of packaging—both the energy used to create it and the burden once it’s discarded. Recycling has not worked as well as hoped; refilling is the answer to packaging ending up in the landfill. Refilling is the zero-waste option. PerfectFlow bottles aren’t refilled just a couple of times—but can be refilled dozens of times, and it’s clean and sealed and pure, every time. Companies operating in Europe have an additional economic incentive because using the PerfectFlow Refill System can reduce their GreenDot (Extended Producer Responsibility) fees up to 70%.
