The Covid-19 pandemic threw supply chains around the world into disarray. Even today, lockdowns around the world continue to slow down or even temporarily stop the flow of raw materials and finished goods, disrupting manufacturing as a result.
For years there have been many persuasive arguments made regarding the benefits of domestic manufacturing, but the long list of complexities involved influenced the process in numerous ways. Now, exacerbated by the global pandemic and the need for an easily accessible, stable supply chain, the movement has picked up speed, especially as far as speed-to-market.
In light of all the talk and interest in keeping production and manufacturing local, Beauty Packaging reached out to a number of USA/NA suppliers to ask, “What advantages does your company offer brands looking for a domestic packaging provider?”
Arkay Packaging
“With our manufacturing plant located in Virginia—as well as our trucking business, Arkay Logistics—Arkay guarantees rapid turnovers and speed to market. Our ability to respond quickly is fundamental to who we are, and with an American plant, we do this successfully. We also offer our unique Paint on Press process, Arkay’s registered and trademarked technique, which reveals the graphic potential within our customers’ artwork. Our Roanoke facility contains all cutting edge, state of the art equipment, and we are proud of our dedication to CSR and our EcoVadis Gold Certification: Arkay is consistently prepared to meet our customers’ needs 24/7.”
Alpha Packaging
“Alpha Packaging offers a blend of niche services that fills a void in the personal care market and drives differentiation from overseas competitors. Our flexible manufacturing capabilities and broad North American footprint is ideal for high mix manufacturing. This translates well to beauty brands of all sizes by providing them with the ability to purchase lower minimums and mixed quantities while maintaining competitive costs. Additionally, we can manage the customer’s complexity through our strategic network of eight facilities across North America. This enables a customer to enjoy delivery of the same or mixed products from multiple locations in support of their different filling locations. As the costs and delivery times of imported materials continue to increase, we think the future of beauty manufacturing in North American will rely on more domestic suppliers to support their packaging requirements.”
Neenah
“What sets us apart is that we genuinely collaborate with brands and converters. For brand packaging, in particular, Neenah’s design center is focused on ideating, prototyping, trialing, and looking for potential opportunities to improve consumer brand experience. We specialize in color matching, essential for maintaining brand consistency and lead the way in offering must-touch textures.
Neenah brings 150 years of paper-making craftsmanship and expertise to the marketplace. As evidenced over time, we’ve built extensive supply chain partnerships that span the globe, and we’ve invested in manufacturing capabilities that produce consistent, reliable results. Our goal is to add value to everything we touch, and we make sure our customers know that every step of the way.”
GEKA
GEKA offers excellent project management support to ensure that any beauty brand’s vision becomes a reality. Our flexible packaging includes retail, travel, and sample size options, which allows brands to position their products either in the retail aisle, near the checkout or in specially designed sample kits with a full-size brush.
In-house, we offer hot foil and pad printing for almost any shape, which combined with our silk screening, stamped metal, metallization, and lacquering partners, means we can achieve challenging decoration concepts. Furthermore, we have full on-site filling capabilities for mascara, lip gloss, serums, and other formulas. As part of this, we have a standard range of formula and brush combinations which help brands to develop exciting new ideas.
Another key philosophy for GEKA is our continuing commitment to social and environmental responsibility, both initiatives that we are sharing with our customers, partners and the wider beauty industry.
Berry
“We are committed to meet any customers’ packaging needs and objectives across the globe. Our large global footprint offers flexibility to meet seasonal or unplanned demands and our scale helps us deliver cost efficiencies and gain access to materials in limited supply. Plus, we can take advantage of technology and innovation from around the world. With nearly 70 manufacturing locations in the US and NA, we can conveniently serve US-based customers of all sizes with our full line of custom or stock beauty and personal care packaging.”
Verescence
“Verescence is a global group with a strong local presence. All over the world, our facilities have the autonomy necessary for their agility in order to support customers locally, while the Group’s departments help them drive innovation and gain momentum. All our sites comply with the highest international standards: ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 22716 (GMP Cosmetics), ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 45001 (safety), and have received the Platinum medal from EcoVadis, the highest level of recognition that distinguishes the top 1% of the world’s most advanced companies in terms of CSR.”
