MakeUp in NewYork 2017 was a success, organizers say — and the Innovation Tree was once again a highlight. Standing tall at the entrance at 37th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, this year’s tree had leaves on its branches, as well as 22 of the most innovative products featured at the show.
A jury of FIT students named the top 3 innovative products — Roberts’ Beauty Spring Eyeliner won first place, followed by Alkos Group’s Exfoliating Charcoal Stick in second, and Weckerle Cosmetics’ Vegan Metal Love Lipstick in third.
Alkos Exfoliating Charcoal Stick (shown above) is a 2-in-1 face mask and exfoliator that unclogs pores while drawing out excess sebum and oil. The stick package is ideal for on-the-go use. The black formula contains suspended castor seed micro-exfoliant particles.
Alkos scored another spot on the Innovation Tree with its Perfume Body Tattoo Pencil. Designed for “discreet touch-ups,” the pencil makes it easy for the user to apply fragrance throughout the day. The brush-pencil format makes it easy to “draw scented lines on the body,” the supplier says, using the pencil in one of the many available colors. Or, a brand might opt for the transparent version.
Pennellifaro also earned two spots on the tree with its Ecosophy and Origami Prisma brushes, shown above. Ecosophy is its collection that features brushes in several sizes that have with sustainable features, including recycled handles made using 100% renewable energy.
Pennellifaro's Origami Prisma collection features brushes that have a pre-shaped, ergonomic head. The brush head’s unusual angular shape was “sculpted like a mold around the face,” the company says, to fit perfectly around every curve. It allows for an easier application of foundation makeup.
