Chanel is launching a makeup line for men on September 1st -- Boy de Chanel.
It won't make its debut in the States just yet, however, as the line is being launched only in South Korea -- before launching on Chanel's website in November, followed by boutique stores in the U.S. in January 2019, according to The Cut.
The product line includes Le Teint Foundation; Stylo Sourcils, a retractable brow pencil; and Le Baume Levres, a hydrating, mattifying lip balm. All are shown above.
Kristine Kim, communications manager for Chanel in Korea tells Forbes about the inspiration behind the line: "For Chanel, beauty is not a matter of gender; it is a matter of style. This new range allows men in their beauty routines to have the tools necessary to feel better about themselves. Moreover, men should be free to use makeup products to correct their appearance, without calling into question their masculinity."
The name of the line is inspired by Boy Capel, designer Gabrielle Chanel’s lover and muse, reports say.
Actor and Model Lee Dong Wook, also shown above, is the 'face' of Boy de Chanel and stars in the line's ad campaign.
A press release states, “Just as Gabrielle Chanel borrowed elements from the men’s wardrobe to dress women, Chanel draws inspiration from the women’s world to write the vocabulary of a new personal aesthetic for men...There is no absolutely feminine or masculine prerequisite: Style alone defines the person we wish to be.”
