Mascolo is survived by wife, Pauline, brothers Bruno and Anthony, children Sacha, Christian and Pierre, and many grandchildren.
Remembering Toni
TIGI Professionals posted this message on Instagram:
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Toni Mascolo, founder of Toni&Guy on Sunday December 10th. Toni believed in creating opportunity for the hairdressers he employed, building a close, extended family network through his franchise operation, leading to the global success of Toni&Guy. Toni had tremendous vision, ambition and determination and a strong work ethos, that helped create a brand unique in hairdressing. His brothers Bruno and Anthony and all at TIGI sends sincere condolences to Toni’s family at this difficult and painful time.
Mascolo received an honorary OBE award for his services to British Hairdressing in October 2008. On Instagram, toniandguyworld posted the following, in remembrance, along with the photo on the right above:
"This OBE is not my OBE - it's ours - everyone who has worked to get Toni & Guy where it is today. We're one big family."
A Brief History of Toni & Guy and TIGI
Toni & Guy's first salon opened in Clapham, in south London, in 1963. One salon grew to become more than 600 salons worldwide including the launch of a smaller salon group, essensuals; a multi-award winning professional haircare range, label.m; and 19 Toni & Guy academies worldwide.
Mascolo's brothers Bruno and Anthony were also hair stylists and involved in the business, helping to establish Toni & Guy -- and later, TIGI and its brands.
Anthony Mascolo left Toni & Guy to lead TIGI's International Creative Team in 2003. TIGI's brands are distributed by Unilever. TIGI Professional Brands now includes the hair care lines Bed Head, Bed Head Colour Trip, Copyright Colour, Catwalk, and S Factor.
